Chinese New Year is just around the corner and so is 8 Partnership’s first domestic satellite office, literally. That’s right, this CNY we’re opening up a second office just down the street from us, at the Victoria Park Chinese New Year Market, albeit a much smaller office (roughly 1/13.48573125 the actual size).

We want to give people a feel for our office and what we do. So we’re taking Eight to the streets. It’s going to look like the real thing. It’s going to feel like the real thing (actual Eighters will be posted there). But it’s going to be a lot lighter, more cramped, colder and noisier.

To painstakingly recreate the Eight office, we recruited the help of legendary Hong Kong movie prop maker Fai Gor, also lovingly referred to as the “Props King”. His client list reads like a venerable who’s who of movie making. James Cameron, Peter Jackson and Hong Kong’s very own Wong Kar Wai. Seriously, the “Props King” created every single Wong Kar Wai film set.

With four days left until the grand opening of our mini-Eight Office, we dropped in to catch up with Fai Gor to see the progress. To our surprise, Fai Gor’s famous props factory also doubles as a gambling den as all were playing cards. But who are we to freak out with ONLY 4 DAYS until launch? If James, Peter and Kar Wai can trust him, we’ll do the same. So we took a seat and lost $41.60 playing Big 2 with the boys.

Fingers crossed that the reception, work desks and flooring will be recreated in time. We’ll keep you updated.
