Kimpton Nine Trees Shanghai – IHG's Next-Generation Wellness Destination
Hong Kong, 2 Oct 2026 – Global branding and design firm Eight Partnership has unveiled the brand for Kimpton Nine Trees Shanghai, a new luxury lifestyle hotel by IHG located within Shanghai's Nine Trees Future Art Centre precinct in Fengxian, South Shanghai, approximately 45 minutes from downtown. Following the successful launch of Kimpton Tsim Sha Tsui Hong Kong, Kimpton's largest global hotel to date, Eight has once again partnered with Kimpton to bring its latest hospitality destination in China to life.
Spanning nearly 40,000 square metres and embraced by 7,000-acre central ecological park, Kimpton Nine Trees Shanghai brings the Kimpton spirit into a nature-led setting that offers a fresh departure from the urban hotel experience. Designed for health-conscious travellers and family-centric guests seeking meaningful escapes closer to home, the hotel comprises 229 guest rooms and suites, a 3,800-square-metre wellness centre, destination dining concepts, family and pet-friendly facilities, and versatile event venues, creating a lifestyle destination where the Kimpton way is reimagined through nature and wellbeing.
Eight was appointed to develop the hotel’s complete brand experience, including brand strategy, hotel story, guest journey, naming, visual identity and brand applications. Building upon Kimpton’s globally recognised spirit of sociability and discovery, the team developed the concept of a next generation wellness escape — a positioning that reimagines wellbeing as an integrated part of contemporary travel and lifestyle.
Eight developed the muse of a Naturalist Pioneer, which informed the visual identity, interior design and programme curation throughout the property. The logo's fluid letterforms echo the organic movement of nature and the hotel’s architectural form, while a vibrant palette of complementary colours challenges the visual sameness often associated with wellness aesthetics. Anchored by earthy Seaweed, uplifted by Sky Blue and accented with Peel, the palette creates an expression that is both energetic and sophisticated. Eight also conceived Evernine, the hotel's signature wellness concept, complete with its own logo, identity and spa-inspired palette that reflects a slower, more contemplative rhythm. This vision extends across every touchpoint of the guest journey, from keycards and spa menus to maps, uniforms and in-room experiences, creating a cohesive brand world that unfolds organically throughout the stay.
“Kimpton has always been built around sociability and discovery,” said Thomas Schmitt-Glaeser, General Manager. “Kimpton Nine Trees Shanghai gave us an opportunity to explore a different side of the brand. The challenge was to place wellness at the heart of the experience while preserving the personality that guests have come to expect from us. Eight understood that balance and helped bring it to life in a way that remains unmistakably Kimpton.”
“It has been incredibly rewarding to continue our partnership with Kimpton following the successful launch of Kimpton Hong Kong,” said Chris Fjelddahl, Partner at Eight Partnership. “Kimpton Nine Trees Shanghai demonstrates the versatility of the brand. It takes the spirit people already recognise in Kimpton and expresses it through a contemporary wellness lens.”
Kimpton Nine Trees Shanghai features 229 accommodations comprising 29 suites and 200 guest-rooms, including family accommodations, dedicated pet-friendly rooms and courtyard pool rooms, with nearly half enjoying forest views. Dining experiences include the Mediterranean-inspired Sola & Luna, contemporary Chinese restaurant Song and the cave-inspired Echo Bar. Together with Evernine wellness sanctuary, The Nest children’s centre, Zombilee pet park and The Bloom ballroom, the destination adds a distinctive new chapter to South Shanghai’s emergence as a hub for culture, nature and lifestyle.
